The British Medical Association is urging UK governments to extend the current ban on smoking in public places to vehicles, citing research indicating that smoking in vehicles exposes drivers and passengers to up to 23 times more toxins than they would encounter in a smoky bar. Another recent study suggested that the air quality inside a smoker’s car, even when the windows are open, is comparable to the industrial smog found in cities like Beijing. Opponents of such a ban say the evidence that smoking in cars is harmful to other passengers is weak and that enforcing the ban would be impractical. Discuss
