New Hair Loss Gene Identified Researchers have identified a gene that they believe affects human hair growth. Mutations in the gene, known as APCDD1, cause a hair condition called hereditary hypotrichosis simplex. A progressive condition, it begins in childhood and causes hair follicles shrink and narrow.
